I don’t know if it’s the change in weather or the introduction of big people food, but Jake has been a bundle of energy this past week. It’s like all of a sudden he’s decided he’s ready to conquer the world. He’s really trying to crawl. He’s also started pulling himself up and standing by himself holding on to tables, chairs, whatever he can find.
I left him in the sun room on Friday while I ran to the kitchen to do something. When I went to check on him, he had pulled himself to a standing position using his rocker. I didn’t want to startle him, so I just peeked around the corner to watch. He soon fell straight on his back. I thought he would start screaming, but he just laid on the floor and then reached for a toy to chew on.
On Thursday his new sitter, Debra, watched him while I went in to the office. I got home around 2:30 and they were both playing together. Debra left and Jake and I continued playing together. He was in the best mood. He was climbing all over me like a little monkey and squealing and giggling. He’d pull up to a standing position using my legs and arms, then try to walk up the front of me. Then he’d bury his head in my shoulder and squeal and laugh. We giggled and wiggled for about an hour together. It was heaven.
I thought I’d share some video of his high-energy week. I love watching his personality come out more and more.
In the first video, he was eating his breakfast as we listened to Otis Redding. Normally we listen to bands like Leeland, Seabear, Wilco, or The Cardigans, so I think he was a little surprised at the change of music.
Whenever I put Jake in his booster seat and start feeding him, he immediately looks at the ipod dock and then looks at me like, “okay, turn on the tunes, Mom.” He loves music and as of yesterday just started bouncing to it and bobbing his head up and down. He usually just leans his head back and forth as if he’s trying to sway, and he’ll beat his hands on his tray. I wish I could have captured his dancing last night, but the camera wasn’t close by. So here’s Jake swaying and drumming to “Try a Little Tenderness.” It takes him a bit to warm up to it, but then he cuts loose.
Soon after that, I put Jake down for his morning nap. He seemed really tired and kept rubbing his eyes, but when I tried to rock him to sleep, he wasn’t having it. So I threw him in his bed and walked out of the room. Okay, not really, but I did put him in his bed while he was still awake. I few minutes later I heard a banging sound and went to check on him. This is what I found. . .
This kid is out of control.
