On occasion we dress Jake in clothes other than just onesies. It’s rare, but it does happen. It’s those endless snaps and this ridiculous heat that often deter us from “outfits.” And, to be perfectly honest, I don’t like many baby clothes. Many of them (especially for boys) are silly looking to me. I picture [...]

A few weeks ago, Jake took his first trip to the pool. After spending the morning packing our pool bag with towels, sunscreen, water, swim diapers, and floats; the diaper bag with Jake’s everyday needs; and throwing his bouncy seat in the back of the car, I had a brief moment of longing. I remembered [...]

A few weeks ago, Jake and I went to visit my friend Christie and her new baby, Gabriel. Christie and I have been friends since the eighth grade and we are pretty stoked that we have boys so close in age. It was Jake’s first time to meet Gabriel, so we couldn’t wait to get pictures of the [...]

I wish I was a baller . . . I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat and a ‘64 Impala.
This kid is out of control. Send help fast.
(p.s. That’s my sister, the hair model, holding Jake and encouraging this thuggish behavior.)

Jake LOVES to play. He is intensely curious about new images, sounds, and textures.
Here he looked at us and said, “Check it out, Mom and Dad. I’m flying a plane. We have liftoff.”
“Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.”
“I love these rings sooo much. I think I’m going to cry.”
“Oh, a book. I wuv books.”
“Me giant. You tower. I will tear you [...]

to eat my child. To completely ingest him. To bite his cheeks and ears off.
And those fat rolls on the backs of his legs . . . oh, man. They are perfectly edible.
Oh my golly. I can hardly stand it.
I realize this is such a southern expression and sounds gross to some, but nothing else quite [...]

I’m back. But only because my child has slept a total of 7 1/2 hours today and it’s only 2:24. Must be a growth spurt. I’ll have to slip some red pop in his bottle this afternoon so he’ll stay awake long enough to sleep through the night. Only kidding.
I feel like I should say [...]
