Jake’s first trip to the Wild and Wonderful West Virginia

Last Friday we packed up the entire house (at least it seemed like it) and headed to Huntington, West Virginia to visit our friends Russ and Sarah for the weekend.
We hadn’t seen them in over a year so it was a long overdue trip. We were ecstatic. We looked forward to the trip the entire week.

But, [...]

His own bed

I admit it. My son does not sleep in his own bed. I’m ashamed and I’m probably a horrible mother for allowing this to happen, but he sleeps in our bed. GASP! Before I became a parent I swore that this would never happen . . . along with about a million other things that [...]

At home today . . .

Jake had a pretty rough day yesterday at Annie’s and only napped for about 20 minutes the entire day. His eczema has been bothering him, so I thought that might be why he wasn’t napping. I decided to take the day off to try to figure out this napping issue and to get a handle [...]

Whatchu lookin’ at?

My absolutely positively favorite face

Jake’s first morning feeding is my favorite. He’s usually pretty sleepy and blinks continuously trying to get his eyes to adjust to the light of day. He nestles in close and doesn’t claw at his itching head like he does during his evening feedings. And when I sit him up to burp him, he slumps over [...]

The other morning . . .

Our morning routine usually goes something like this:
I get up at 6:00 and shower before Jake wakes up. He usually starts stirring around 6:30 or 7:00. While I’m feeding him, Matt showers and gets ready. Then we do the handoff. Matt takes Jake downstairs while I do my hair and makeup.
So the other morning after I finished [...]

That dreaded word . . .

Eczema.
I prayed for months before Jake was born that he would not suffer from eczema or allergies. Every morning of my pregnancy as I drove to work, this was one of the things I prayed over him . . . in addition to him being healthy, strong, kind, sweet-spirited, empathetic, and obedient.
I was shocked when around 6-8 weeks [...]

Got Milk?

So if you’re of the male persuasion, I’ll warn you to stop reading now. Unless you like to hear about milk production and lactation. And I’m not talking about cows here.
Going back to work did a serious number on my milk supply. I’m sure the combination of being away from Jake and work stress is [...]

I almost died laughing . . . seriously.

This was my first week back to work after 12 weeks of maternity leave. Let’s just say it was hard. On Monday I had to drop Jake off with his new sitter, Annie. She is super sweet and has a 2 year old son named Sam. I know Jake is in good hands, but leaving [...]

I sense a trend . . .

I’ve noticed that my last few posts have talked about how unhappy and fussy Jakob is. So I just wanted to take this opportunity to show you how happy he can be.
